San Juan Islands/ Friday Harbor

Will be visiting mid- September and looking for lunch spots with uncomplicated menus and at least beer or wine. So far I've found menus for Down Riggers and Friday's Crab House, but not too much else.

Thanks for any help and suggestions.

  1. Hi, Teddy:

The Place is good, as is the Lime Kiln Cafe on the pier at Roche. Overall, FH is not a great lunch (or even food) spot. IIWY, I'd skip lunch and hit Duck Soup Inn with a huge appetite for dinner. Beats McMillan's all hollow, I think, but without the view.

Second the recommendation for Duck Soup Inn. Best spot on San Juan Island.

I appreciate the advice -- but the family group I'm traveling with is looking for lunch, not dinner -- we've got that covered. They are not "foodies" and prefer good ingredients to complicated preparations. Luckily, we're staying at a place with a fuil kitchen.

    2. Market Chef is very good---it's tucked in above the ferry, and has a very unassuming appearance, but the food is stellar. Low key, and as I recall, it is quite small---but I ate there twice and found it to be quite good---deli food done with great attention to detail. Definitely uncomplicated menu, and wonderful sandwiches/soups. They also have beer/wine.
