Bourbon Punch for the Summer

blueeyedman Aug 2, 2013 10:22 AM

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good bourbon based punch recipe that would go well with laying by the pool in the hot Florida sun?

Not punch, and I haven't tried it yet, but a nice lady in the supermarket shared a recipe as we were both reaching for tonic yesterday--the BLT!

Bourbon, lemon and tonic. Sounds good to me! :)

The Ward Eight from the Commanding General of Maxwel Air Force Base.

      6 parts bourbon
      2 parts orange juice
      2 parts lemon juice
      1/2 part grenadine

Shake with hard ice and strain into an insulated glass.

Extra points for an umbrella with a cherry.

Three of these in the sun and you will be ready for admission to Ward 8.

Thanks! You can't go wrong with bourbon and citrus...

Out of curiosity, what does the Ward 8 have to do with "Commanding General of Maxwel Air Force Base"

Also what do you mean by "admission to Ward 8"?

I highly recommend the book or movie "Capt. Newman, M.D."

Ward 8 in a military hospital at the time was for psychiatric patients. And this drink was the submission to the cookbook by the Commanding General.

Can you imagine the uproar today if a General recommended an alcoholic drink?

Oh, ok, from a book. I was wondering because the Ward 8 cocktail is associated with Boston and refers to the voting district called Ward 8.

I just googled Ward 8 to verify my supposition and got nailed by your reality. Thank you so much for correcting my egregious error. And in such a gentle manner.

                I really do thank you.

OK, you had me laughing. Me? In a "gentle manner"? I guess all the warning letters from the Moderators over the past dozen years are finally having an effect.
