Key Lime Pie - enough filling?

I'm making a key lime pie with the Nellie & Joe's recipe and I feel like there's not much filling vs graham cracker crust, but I may have taken the crust too far up the sides of the pie plate. Should I do another recipe of filling and add before I bake? I feel like I did that once before and it was a mistake. Thanks!

    Just back from my event and my pie + whipped creme was a hit. I'm definitely going to do that two-layer pie though. Looks relish.

      Thank you everybody. I baked as is as i feel like I once doubled the recipe for the filling and it just didn't turn out quite right. More whipped creme please!

        I am going to try that two layer recipe as it sounds delicious.

        probably to leave room for the whipped cream. To keep if from looking scanty, you could pipe whipped just right along the crust line

          I made that exact pie recently and thought the same thing. I think wyogal is right about the extra space being for whipped cream.

          I enjoyed mine sans whipped cream - I love the lime flavor just as it is.

            Same here, and we serve it with a dollop on the slice. I tend to use about another half recipe. which leaves about half a can of sweetened condensed milk sitting on the counter. darn. ha!

            I believe it is to leave room for the whipped cream or meringue.

              I'd bake as is and add another unbaked layer (the second layer in this two layer pie is a great addition):


              Just doubling the filling would overwhelm the crust.

                Might be too overwhelming to eat that much KL filling.
