Update me on The Barrymore and Marche Bacchus...worth going?
As restaurants do, they go through spurts it seems..last time our friends went to The Barrymore, they said it was good but not memorable and according to so many posts on different sites, Marche is on the upswing or just good?
Well, I'd go the other way. We went to MB about two or three months ago, and I was pretty disappointed (I've probably been six or eight times to the restaurant). The service was beyond slow (although our waiter was very nice) and the food was not memorable (other than the gazpacho, which I enjoyed) and quite pricy. Wine selection remains a plus, and outdoors is really pleasant and enjoyable, and that remains a reason to go, but I'm not headed back anytime soon.
I view the Barrymore as very solid; I've been twice in the last six weeks and had good to excellent food each time. Definitely if you go ask to sit in a booth in the room with the film reels on the ceiling (much cooler room). They have a good selection of non-meat choices for the non-steak eaters. Cocktails are very good and the wine list is pretty extensive, and they have a selection of bottles for under $50. Service has been attentive and knowledgable. I think it is a pretty goood value compared to Strip steak houses.
Hope you have a great trip.
