Grace's Table Gone [White Plains]

I was surprised and disappointed to see that Grace's Table will now be yet another Italian restaurant. Does anyone know what happened? it seemed to be doing well.

  1. I'm surprised i lasted that long. It seems that no restaurant lasts very long in that spot for some reason.

I heard such nice things....I was gonna stop in last I was telling my hubs (pulling in), and there it was (or wasn't). I think Westchester is just not small business/restaurant friendly.

i don't think it's that Westchester isn't small restaurant friendly - my area (Scarsdale/Hartsdale) has very few "chain" type restaurants. Grace's Table was in a bad location - I have seen very little succeed there.

They were struggling last October, so it comes as no surprise that this occurred. A shame since they put a lot of cash into renovation.

As mrsdebav said, strange that buon amici, which is so close, is doing fine. I've seen so many things come and go on mamaroneck ave, it just seems not much stays around-Other than larger rest. groups and chains. Not just restaurants and foods, but those I recall best. Eclisse, los espanolos, milonga, juicy sushi. Though I wonder how rekas is still around.

Rekas has very low rent. Old long term lease.

I never tried Grace's because the menu wasn't as veg friendly as I would have liked. Friends reported the food was unexceptional and the prices were out of line with the offerings. Unlike Grace's, Buon Amici, which I would think qualifies as a small business, is in the very same area as Grace's and has done well for years. Their service is excellent, and the food is quite tasty.

        2. Maybe doing well Saturday nights but dead all week. Nothing seems to work but burgers, pizza and Asian. Must be taxes and the price of gas.

          1. I'm not surprised. They started out so well and we thought we'd finally have a "go to" spot in our area with Grace's Table. But the last two times we visited the service had gone way downhill. It seemed like everyone around us was unhappy the last time we ate there.

We ate there fall of 2012 and service was a disaster. Food was mixed. Not cheap and an annoying experience. My friends left angry. Amateur hour. Waiter forgot to take a drink order, forgot to serve courses.
Agreed the location is cursed with too many failures. Restaurant business in the area is not good in general. Too many restaurants. Strong business for low priced fare and top end venues for business and 1% crowd. Flooded with coupons and on line discounts. Stick with the winners like Emma's, Francesco's, Vega.
