Where do you purchase broccoli rabe in San Francisco?

I moved to SF about a year ago, though I am still amazed by the quality of fruits and vegetables I can locate here I am missing broccoli rabe. I have been to several farmers markets and grocery stores. I have looked high and low and I can not find broccoli rabe anywhere! I see it on menus occasionally but I'd like to know where I can get my hands on some. Any tips would be appreciated!

  1. I have been buying it from Star Route at Ferry Plaza. Believe it is labeled as rapini but not sure maybe just rabe. usually in the front.

Seconding this. The Star Route rabe/rapini is excellent.

I like Star Route's rapini, too.

Happy Boy has it a good chunk of the year. They have nice, organic produce at various markets, but possibly all in the south bay. I'm not sure about that.

Happy Boy is at Noe Valley on Saturday mornings and Mission Community Market (aka Mercado) on Thursday afternoons/evenings. Some of their produce can run a little on the high side, but their broccoli rabe (or rapini, depending on the season, I suppose) has usually been a steal.

I *think* Tomatero occasionally has it. I usually run into them at the Haight market on Wednesday afternoons, but they are also at the Mission market.

In terms of retail, I almost always see it at Andronico's in the Sunset and WF on Stanyan & Haight.

I have recently seen rapini at Happy Boy's stall at the Wednesday Castro market, though I don't think they had any this past week.

I don't think Star Route had it this week and thought maybe Annabelle was in Berkeley but no go.

          3. I find it at Whole Foods here in Oakland, so you might try one of the SF stores. In Oakland, it's also usually in stock at Market Hall Produce and Farmer Joe's.

              2. Rapini is easy to find at area farmers markets during the cooler months.

                1. Two vendors at Alemany Farmers Market carry it during the season and I've seen it at Andronico's.
