Kennebunkport/Kennebunk and Ogunquit

  • 4

I am going to Maine for a couple of days in early August and I will be spending one day in Kennebunkport and Ogunquit with both my kids to celebrate the older one's high school graduation. We are going to window shop and nosh though both towns.

Where do you recommend that we eat? The Clam Shack is a definite but what else? Cheap eats are great! Nothing too high end.

Thanks so much!

  1. Maine Diner in Wells (between those two towns) is popular; I had a great lobster roll there

Be sure to give yourself time for the wait for Maine Diner or eat off meal time. That time of year there's nearly always lines around meal times.

There are a fair number of other options mentioned in threads here in the board. I'm thinking if you just enter ogunquit or kennebunk in the search, you'll find a vast range of things to choose from.

We arrived there around 8 pm on a Thursday night. There was indeed a line at that time, but when I went in to put our name on the list we lucked out by being a party of three and they happened to have three at the counter available right away.

    2. Ditto on the Maine Diner, with acknowledgement of the lines. There is a gift shop to while away some of the time. Their lobster pie is a must try.

More formal is On the Marsh in Kennebunk, with an excellent reputation for fine dining (and as you might expect higher prices).

"Too high end" are Arrows in Ogunquit and the White Barn in Kennebunk, with high prices to match their reputations.
