Da Qing Hua - San Gabriel

  • 7

Recently opened in the same block as Luscious Dumplings.

1. House Special Soup 3/5
Decent. Needs some white pepper.

2. XLB
Meh..little juice and skin kinda thick. Dried up pretty quickly.

3. Pork Noodles
Way too salty....we barely touched it.

Would not go back again.

  1. Probably be gone in a few months. Hui Tou Xiang is the only business that has been able to get near Luscious Dumplings without going out of business in less than a year.

Taipei Bistro is doing pretty well, and it's basically right next door.

    2. the old michelle's pancake IIRC. totally nasty.

i didn't even finish the XLB whose fillings were an unnatural orange color and included flecks of carrot in the steamer.

ironically, the beef filled stuff (i forget what they were called, but i'm trying to expunge all memory of them from my brain) was much juicier, but not a good thing when it's rancid beef fat.

        1. The Industry branch of Michelle's is now called Tai Fung Pancake House. If you didn't look at the name on the sign or the menu you would have thought it was still Michelle's. (The patio area is still full of Michelle's signage.) They still serve the same "Flound Dumplings" that Michelle's did. Presume the customers are the same too.

I caught this when I passed through the area late Saturday. Michelle's is out of the SGV now, right?

Yes, as far as I know the only remaining location is in Cupertino.
