Moderate Sunday night date, East side/SGV?

Looking for a restaurant that fits the following criteria for anniversary dinner:

1) easily accessible from Alhambra (say within 15 min drive)
2) 2 people can get out of there for under $80, fortunately we don't drink
3) really good food is the priority, more important than romantic atmosphere, although we would like a little bit of that if possible
4) veggie friendly, or at least not meat-focused -- don't send us to a steakhouse! basically, would be good if they pay as much attention to veggies as to meat.
5) reservations still available for next weekend (Sunday), or walk-ins ok w/ short wait (say under 20 min)
6) quality ingredients, preferably local/organic/&c. & willing to work around food allergies.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

  1. Real Food Daily, Pasadena.

    1. Bashan

It fits all your requirements except for (maybe) the 15 minute drive from Alhambra. On an early Sunday evening, however, the 210 FWY should be a breeze.

      1. Thank you both for the suggestions. Bashan sounds more our speed, although it does seem a little far & also a little budget-stretching.

Is there nothing else in Pasadena? Or how about downtown? Eagle Rock?

In downtown, you might try Bestia (one of the places open on Sunday night).

          In Pasadena, check out Racion.

            Bestia is great.

Pretty sure reservations not available for next Sun but it's worth a shot. If you go 15 minutes before open you may be able to grab a walk-in spot at the bar or one of the little bar tables next to it.

        2. Yum! Both of those look/sound great. & thanks for the tip on walking in early to Bestia. I was able to reserve at Racion so maybe we'll try Bestia next time.

          1. Following up. We ended up rescheduling for tonight instead of Sunday & I'm guessing I should have asked back here for the presumably wider selection of places open on a Thursday. Racion was fine but just not worth the tab. Too late I saw the thread where other folks said as much.
