White Manna: Why The Hype?

chowhounder411 Jul 19, 2013 08:30 AM

I have been wanting to try White Manna for a while and finally recently did. I ordered 6 cheese sliders with grilled onions and thought they lacked one thing - flavor. I think nostalgia plays a huge role in the celebration of NJ's White Castle-style slider establishments. Pretty much every other slider or fast food style burger place that I've tried is better - BUCU, Don's, Bella's, Little Shanty, the list goes on.

You need to have a love for simple onion griddled sliders to like White Manna. All you want is burger cheese onion pickle.

Having said that, I personally prefer Castle over both Mana and Rose.

The Roadside Diner is a great place for breakfast.....I love the doorway you enter in.

Nostalgia does have to do with it. But if you like those kinds/types of burgers, then you love them and they are "the" slider/grease-burger/etc.

In this category, this is considered by many a very good place for this kind/type of burger. For me, it's a once in a long time kind of thing. I've been local for years, been there countless times, etc. -- but I enjoy "high" quality burgers, high-quality preparation, mix, flavor, taste, etc.

You can't compare this to BuCu, Bobby's, Cheeburger Cheeburger, or even the top burger places -- Dutch House, Krug's, Davey's, and so on. Totally different kind of places.

There's no comparing this place to a place like BuCu.

This place has sliders, grease-burgers, and people go for the show of watching the cook as well as the burgers. If you like greasy slider-type well done burgers with greasy cooked onions, this is a good place.

Why the heck did you start sith SIX burgers? I think two would have given you a good idea of the taste of the burger!

There's a reason they call White Castle murder burgers. I can eat (a sensible quantity) of White Manna burgers and not feel it later. But the place is so small and crowded that it's usually not worth the trouble for me.

Next time, if there is a next time, order three doubles on hard rolls and it may change your opinion.

There may be. At least it will be cheap. I like the prices

many years ago....I sat next to a guy where the old pay phone used to be in the right corner.....he ordered a large plate of fries and 20 doubles on hard rolls.....when he finished them, he ordered 20 more. After he finished that, he had an entire Coconut Custard Pie all by himself. If I recall correctly, he also had two Cokes only as beverages to wash it all down.

I tried to look away, but couldn't.
