Best low-key date restaurants in San Francisco?

Looking for a fairly casual, but still nice, easy to hear each other talk date restaurant with really good food in San Francisco. Any ideas?

    1. Bodega Bistro, Maykadeh, Helmand Palace, Angkor Borei

oh, good choice. esp if nice day and cant sit in the back yard. i havent sat inside ... but it appeared a bit cramped.

I sat inside, but at a table for six. It is not a large room and the 2-tops might be close together. It just struck me as the kind of place I might bring someone I was getting to know.

Having had a first date at Blue Plate, I'd agree. Nice low-key atmosphere with very good food and a fun wine list.

                And I recommend:

                Blue Plate
grilled hearts of romaine smoked bacon, avocado, cherry tomato, balsamic, grana $10

[BP was the second/dinner stop on a memorable although logistically complex date which started with drinks at Sea Salt/Berkeley and continued with drinks downtown].

I havent been to the "new" Helmand but thought he old place was pretty solid (well, untill the mountain fell on it). although while some privacy is nice, a couple of times the HP dining room felt a little desolate ... maybe one or two other parties there.

            2. I like Le Charm's prix fixe.
