cooper's mill-- tarrytown-- any reports?

Never heard of this place but there's a Groupon deal up for them, and I have a $10 Groupon gift card. Any chowhounds been yet?

  1. I haven't yet but bought the groupon...the menu looks good and for $34 figure it's worth a try

I was thinking the same thing... I didn't realize it was in a hotel so that makes me a little wary. Also the yelp reviews seem like mostly shills. But the menu does look good.

    2. I bought the groupon and ate there last Saturday (we live close by), nice atmosphere, the crab cake was excellent, all crab and little filler.

I then had the scallops with pea shoots, they were ok, not the best I've had, DH has the surf/turf special which was a good steak and shrimp, he enjoyed it, I tried a little of each, both were tasty.

For the price, it was a very good deal. Service was very good too. Would I spend $100 on the same meal? Not sure, but I would go back for a glass of wine and the crab cake.

Thanks for the report!! I actually forgot to get the Groupon. It looks like it's still available so maybe I'll get it.

The 4 of you should have gone together and bought the Groupon for 4 :-).

      2. I've never used Groupon, but it looks intriguing. But please, tell me, if they have a $15 for $30 worth offer, what if the bill is $40?

pay penalty of $75.00 do not pass go do NOT collect $200.00. You just pay the additional $10.00, simple. However tip should be based on the entire bill, otherwise the staff gets stiffed *L*

        2. We recently used our groupon. We shared a delicious flatbread as an appetizer--duck prosciutto, figs and blue cheese. For mains we had the scallops (good, but not seared as well as I prefer) and the pork shank, which although tasty, was very fatty. Wines by the glass were decent, and the service was good--friendly yet professional. What would prevent me from going back is the atmosphere, which is basically a hotel coffee shop...too bad.

          1. They're on Amazon Local now, $30 for $60 and it's anything off the menu, not the structured deal that Groupon does most of the time these days where you get 2 glasses of wine and the value is based on the most expensive thing on the menu. It's good for 6 months so I'm thinking of buying. Has anyone been there recently?

Was just there again last Friday night, the crab cake is still excellent and we both enjoyed our dinners of steak and lamb.

            2. way late but three of us went with the groupon for four. We called before buying it and they said we could do that (some places won't, with the groupon). So we ate the two apps, three entrees, and 4 drinks there and took home the 4th entree.

The service was good, although the place wasn't busy when we went. The quality of the dishes ranged from pretty good to mediocre to just bad.

The crab cake was tasty but I didn't like the flatbread we ordered. It was kind of like an undressed arugula salad with little bits of goat cheese on a large cracker- maybe the hot ones were better. (Just looked, it's not on the menu anymore).

My sister had the pasta and my mom had the salmon, which they both said were good, but not anything special. I had the scallops over a green pea puree, which was a touch salty, but the scallops were nicely seared.

We ordered the ice cream sampler for dessert. It came with two ice creams and two sorbets. There was a really good peach/brandy sorbet and a forgettable tomato one. I can only remember one of the ice creams because it had the potential to be good, the bacon-blue cheese-fig. It would have been a really different, interesting savory ice cream, unfortunately they didn't render out the fat in the bacon properly, so there were large pieces of it throughout. Icy cold bacon fat is not tasty.

Oh we took home the pork shoulder with this creamy parsnip mash/puree thing. It was really good even reheated the next day.

Overall it wasn't a bad experience and so if you can get a groupon/some kind of discount I would go.
