I'm a Denver native who has lived in San Francisco for 25 years, so I'm a bit out of touch with the Denver food scene. Would love suggestions for good local ethnic places in Denver. I know that there are good Vietnamese, Korean and Ethiopian places, so it would be good to narrow those down, and anything else you might suggest would be appreciated.

I live in Boulder and don't get down to Denver as much as I sometimes think that I should, I have some comments. Westword does a pretty good job of covering ethnic eats between their reviews and their blog so you might check out their website.

I was blown away by a meal at Vietnam Grill a month or two ago. We had the build your own spring roll platter, the garlic butter quail, and a rabbit curry that balanced spice with a little bit of funk really well. All of the flavors were vibrant and delicious. I've heard good things about their noodle soups, but haven't tried them myself.

For pho specifically, I like Pho 95 better than the other places I've tried. I've also had solid bowls at Pho Duy and Pho 79 and imagine that many of the myriad other places are good as well.

Lao Wang Noodle House gets a lot of love, and I do think that their potstickers, noodle dishes, and some of the appetizers are excellent. I did feel that Xiao Long Bao were just okay.

I'll let others who have tried more places chime in on Korean and Ethiopian. Hope this helps!

For Vietnamese I'd say New Saigon for their extensive menu followed by Pho Duy and Pho 888 for solid Pho offerings. Pho 888 has a great Avocodo Boba that's worth the trip.

Lao Wang Noodle House for potstickers, dan dan noodles, and xio long bo.

Ba Le Sandwich for Bahn Mi is great value and tasty.

For Thai... J's Noodles is hard to beat.

There are numerous Ethiopian places on Colfax that I hope someone can help you with (not my specialty).

Enjoy what Denver has to offer!
