Where to buy hot dog buns

neighborguy Jul 17, 2013 07:09 AM

Does anyone know where I can buy hot dog buns like they serve from a cart? The yellow-coloured, soft and fluffy kind? It would be great as a hamburger bun too. Supermarket buns I find are too thick and bready and I'm looking for something more spongy.

Are you prepared to shlep up to the northwest part of town? If so, I get my hot dog and hamburger buns at Bagel Plus, a smallish, locally popular bakery and cafe in a plaza on the northwest corner of Sheppard Ave. and Bathurst St. Their buns are a most satisfying delivery system for dogs and burgers. About this bready vs. spongy business (which I've never considered before), I guess these buns come down on the side of spongy, as you requested. Always fresh, though you might want to call ahead to make sure they have them that day.

There is Champs which is right by the TIFF Bell Lightbox (on Widmer):

There is another place on Richmond:

Never been to either and I am sure there are more than just those two but probably a good place to start!

champs supplies most of the downtown carts. super cheap dogs, buns, even condiments. but be prepared to buy costco sized volumes from them

The sausage vendor at the east York farmers market sells champs buns In a more manageable quantity, 8am-1pm I think (I'm always there when it opens) on Tue at the east York civic centre at coxwell and Mortimer.

Go to the place where the carts get theirs:

Breadsource (B&A Bakery) 1820 Ellesmere Rd.

I buy hot dog buns from the vendor at Canadian Tire location on St. Clair, near Keele. He also sells hot dogs. Great guy! :)
