That article mentioned a possible Umami Burger in Oakland also.

Can someone please compare Umami Burger to The Counter and SliderBar?

Yes, Umami Burger has the spot in Uptown kitty corner to Ike's Sandwiches in a new shiny office tower on the ground floor. But they totally haven't started work on the empty space yet. Targeted May opening.

Umami Burger soft opening this week. Had a good meal there; I like this style of "upscale" burger. Medium rare was pink and juicier than I would expect given the color. Housemade ketchup was tasty and I enjoyed the housemade pickle plate for the price. A couple of orders of "topped" fries (truffle and "Manly") were good but not worth the upcharge IMO and got soggy quickly.

Although I liked it, I feel it's a little pricey for what it is. That said, I'll be back from time to time.

Another visit, again, a very nice, juicy burger. I noticed they sell "umami spray" and wouldn't be surprised if they use it to cook their burgers- presumably some kind of MSG/salt solution, or if more natural, mushroom extract/fish sauce/kombu or the like.

Draft beer is $7(!). Onion rings were good. I like the "Diablo" sauce they offer on the side.

I've had my fill for now.

Well, then. I was looking forward to checking this out, but $7 for a beer? I guess the Pandora employees upstairs are good for it.

I'll still go, but maybe have a Coke.

I went for dinner last week and agree that the burgers are tasty and cooked perfect. I also ordered medium rare and got a pink and juicy burger. Sometimes it feels like actually receiving medium rare burger is like finding a unicorn. I split a truffle burger and the queso fundido burger. It is hard not to like the one with chorizo more, but I'd have to say that the queso was was barely noticable. Maybe they were running low on cheese sauce because our "manly" fries were barely drizzled with the cheese sauce too. The fries were good but totally not worth a $3 upcharge. They have a full bar and decent beer selection.

I'll definitely go back when I'm craving a burger and only medium rare will do....but I'll probably be more likely to visit Trueburger for half the price.
