Must try in the Hamptons

Only going to be in the Hamptons for a couple days. Would love a couple local, great seafood spots. Steamers would be an added plus!

Which Hamptons are you going to? West, East, South, Bay? That said, The Plaza Café in Southampton is considered one of the best, if not the best, for seafood. Although it sounds like you may be looking for a "shack" kind of place? That's another story.

We will have a car and love to drive. Both the quintessential seafood shack and a nicer, gorgeous restaurant with great food would be wonderful.

If you love to drive, you can take a ride out to Montauk and visit the Clam Shack on the stretch, or Duryeas Lobster Dock (on the water, gorgeous view), it is behind the railroad station outside town. I've heard Canal Café in Hampton Bays is wonderful and am planning on checking that out myself very soon. It is on the canal behind OBI or whatever they call the club now.

Oaklands on the end of Dune Rd in Hampton Bays is a great hang out, a casual restaurant with very good fish. Great views of the fishing boats coming and going.

For extrememly casual with impeccably fresh fish, try Brewsters Fish Market right on Montauk Hwy by the canal. A couple of small tables outside on the highway, and a counter inside. No view but great seafood.

For nicer and gorgeous, I will stand by The Plaza Café in Southampton.

I've been to Oakland's last year for lunch. I don't recall much specifically about the food though other than it being average. I do remember tripping down the stairs out on the deck in front of everyone. Lol

Oakland's has "OK" food and a fabulous location. We use the K.I.S.S. rule there.
You will get much better food at Cowfish, Canal Café and Rumbar with waterfront dining.

My sister in law was madly in love with their crab cakes, so we spent many an afternoon there. No complaints!

Our three favorites are all in Hampton Bays:
        Canal Café
If you are heading out on the LIE try Buoy 1 in Riverhead. They also have a place in Westhampton (Beach??)

Classic New England-style seafood in East Hampton: Bostwick's Chowder House is highly recommended.

Bostwicks is probably my favorite restaurant in E. Hampton. It's come as u are, even for dinner and has some of the freshest side vegetables IMO. Awesome seafood place. They used to be located at the end of small street by a boat launch but are now right on Pantigo which is the main road to Montauk and the lighthouse. I think the current location used to be a Chinese restaurant.

The restaurant that took over Bostwick's orig. location is awful in every sense and such a waste.

Montauk also has seafood shacks by the marinas on the north side.

I think Bostwicks used to be Snowflake Ice Cream? That goes pretty far back.

            Back from a perfect visit.
Loved dinner at Bostwicks and lunch at Lobster Roll. If only we had similar places in L A! Dinner at Navy Beach was good. The food was decent (not great) but being on the sand made it a wonderful evening. We also had a delicious meal at Indian Wells Tavern. Looking forward to returning next summer and hopefully for a longer visit. Thank you for the great suggestions!

Indian Wells is one of our favorites, a great pub type place.
