Le Chateaubriand without Reservation - Second Seating Help

I will be in Paris next week and since we don't have a reservation, want to try for a late seating at Le Chateaubriand. Can anyone give me any tips as to the best way to do this for two people dining? What time should we arrive? Is it possible to put our name on a list and then come back at an appointed time or do we literally have to stand in a line of people? Is it possible to sit at their bar and drink as opposed to physically standing in a line? Any suggestions or tip are welcome!

Try to drop in at 10:30 PM and onwards. No sitting at the bar (besides, the room is always packed), but possibly grabbing a seat at Le Dauphin next door.

I thought the 2nd sitting was more like 9:00 with first tables at 7:00. No seats at the bar but those waiting lean on it and drink. Dauphin is OK but a tiny bar area for non-eaters (bar seats reserved for diners) and they were pretty grumpy to us when we simply wanted to have a drink.

That's what I was fearing re. Le Dauphin. But I am positive the second (non-reservation) seating starts at 10-10:30 PM. There may be a second seating at 9 but that one is likely to be reservations-only.

Ok, let me make sure I understand. So in order to get to Le Chateaubriand and preserve my place in line for the second seating, I can just check in with the restaurant, give them my name and number in my party and then either go to Le Chateaubriand's bar to drink or go over to Le Dauphin where there is a small bar area? Any idea about what time I need to get to Le Chateaubriand to have a shot at the second seating? Thanks for all the help!

Chateaubriands bar is in the restaurant - you simply hang out there if it isn't too full.

Here is what the concierge at my hotel said. Suggests there is no "line" and you don't give your name to anyone and you just show up at 9:30. Doesn't sound like that would work. Thoughts?

In regard with the second seating in the restaurant “Le Chateaubriand”, kindly be informed that it starts at 9:30pm.
You just have to show up at 9:30pm as the restaurant does not take any reservation (as you already know) and does not secure any seat even you give your name during the evening.
Last information, they take a maximum of 4 guests per table.

Should you want to have a nice drink before to get to “Le Chateaubriand”, we would like to suggest you the bar “Le Coq”, which is at 10 minutes by walk from the restaurant.
One of the best cocktail bar in Paris, in “retro-chic” place with trendy atmosphere.

Is your concierge saying that Le Châteaubriand "does not take any reservation"? Or does that just mean that the second seating is no-reservation? The former would be very inexact.

The 4 guests per table can only be a "second-seating" regulation. I've eaten at a table of 8 at Le Châteaubriand.

9:30 sounds a bit early to me (10 PM was the instruction I got directly from the restaurant) but it might be safer if you're willing to have a drink in the meantime.

The concierge just means that the second seating is no reservation. And yes, I think the 4 guests per table is a second seating regulation. I only have 2 guests so thankfully that won't apply to me.

Day of the week is very important. Fri and Sat night is a rugby scrum... much easier mid-week.

It will be a Tuesday night - next week. So hopefully there won't be any issues.

The resto's website says the same thing as your concierge, second seating from 9.30 pm, for which no reservations are taken. I've walked past around this time or a bit later before (once en route le Dauphin) and have usually registered a small group, which I now realize must be the second seating crowd. But it wasn't a huge crowd - I would guess they can all eventually get in.

Thanks, everyone! I'll give it a shot next week and let you know how it goes.
