A friend just back from his trip told me he didn't think HRD lived up to the hype and he even went so far as to say he thought his lunch wasn't that good. I found an old thread here that had some mixed opinions. any more recent thoughts?

  1. I'm interested in locals' thoughts on HRD too particularly in light of the recent opening of their second, dinner only establishmenthttp://www.7x7.com/eat-drink/whats-new-san-f.... I've had the first shop on my radar for years but it's never quite made the short list for a trip.

    1. What did your friend order at HRD?
      Reviews are all over the map with yeas and nays; too spicy/too bland... fusion confusion?
      It's a friendly vibe by David Yeung and his crew. We've had good times at HRD and I enjoy trying the new specials on the Board.

      Added to the mix;
      HRD Smokin' Grill in North Beach
      532 Green Street
      and
      Kitchen Mojo
      300 De Haro St

        never tried HRD's food.
        Kitchen Mojo's fried crisp pork katsu a disappointment
        -flavors not tastable thru the bun
        -small katsu portion
        -pork katsu outside the bun tasty
        btw, K.M. isn't operated by David, just trained by him

      2. I think HRD has declined a bit in quality. I first ate there about a year ago and had some excellent lunches over the course of a few months. However they went through a pretty significant menu change late last year and since it hasn't been the same. Some of the best items were removed from the menu, and they went with cheaper ingredients for other items which really diminished them (e.g. switching from Niman to commodity beef for the Loco Moco).
