Kuala Lumpur - Japanese meal at the legendary Genji at the PJ Hilton

Almost every Malaysian, from your average Japanese-food lover to food bloggers have been raining praise upon this very popular Japanese restaurant in PJ Hilton. Genji has been a stalwart in KL's dining scene for more than two decades, famed throughout the ciy for its Japanese food, rivalling perhaps Kampachi (ex-Equatorial KL) now at Troika Towers as the top Japanese spot in the city.

I finally got to try Genji today - chose the Genji set meal which consisted of tuna and salmon sashimi, deep-fried panko-crumbed fish, norimaki, grilled unagi, grilled beef rolls with leeks, cheese-mayo grilled fish, chawan-mushi, miso, salad and fresh fruits.

Verdict: One of the best Japanese food available in KL - which does *not* have very high Japanese food standards anyway. I'd had better in Tatsu at the Intercontinental. None of the dishes were standouts though done competently. The fruits were a let-down though - the honeydew melon were unripe and tasteless, not something I expected from a RM200 (US$60+) set.
