Kenichi

Had some excellent dishes at Kenichi last night.

Started with:

Asparagus wrapped with crispy pork belly over a bed of spinach and drizzled with teriyaki sauce and an order or roasted shisito peppers. Pork belly was the winner by far.

Sushi:
Escolar with pickled carrots and chili pepper threads. Super tender but I missed the fried garlic.
Proscuitto wrapped seared Big Eye tuna with a citrus glaze was a great balance.
But the best was the Hamachi Kungpao. Great mix of heat and textures with pine nuts, citrus and peppers.

Entrees:
We also had sea bass and the Strip from Strube Ranch. The fish was very flavorful, but the beef was the winner. Great sear and super tender over some of the creamiest mashed potatoes I've had. Spiced green beans.

Dessert:
Maytag Blue Cheesecake with grape sorbet. Great savory dessert.
Chocolate ganache and cinnamon gelato.

I hadn't been in a long time and was glad to see that they are putting a new twist on traditional Japanese dishes.

  1. I'm very interested in the Maytag Blue Cheesecake.....was it sweet at all, or did the sorbet provide a counterbalance?
