Trip report for coffee / pastries and inexpensive meals
First, let me say thank you to everyone who took the time to answer my many questions. Thanks to everyone I was organized and prepared. This is a trip we will always remember.
We arrived Sunday afternoon. After a couple of hours of sightseeing we ended up at Times square, tired and hungry. I was prepared tho, I quickly pulled out my list of restaurants and off we went to Shake Shack. Big mistake! Shake Shack was packed! We sat in the middle of a crowded restaurant with my mom in a wheel chair while my kids walked around eying people as they ate, trying to figure out who was almost done so we could grab their table. While we were getting settled, my son was ordering our food. The food was good but we couldn't enjoy it because it was just too hectic. I wish we had went somewhere else.
Monday morning on our way to GMA show, we stopped at Bouchon for a creme puff and coffee, then Financier Patisserie for a Chocolate torte and another cup of coffee. Both excellent but I like Financier better.
Then we headed to Coney Island to eat a hotdog, some pizza and ride some rides. It started to rain so we thought we would wait it out at totinos pizza but they were closed....so much for being prepared. We headed to Nathans for Hotdogs.Nothing better then a chilli dog on a cold rainy day. Everyone enjoyed Nathans. The rides were closed due to the rain so we walked around, reminiscing and taking pictures. In the early evening, we headed to Chelsea Market. We ate pudding, orange/choc cookie and a Rugelach. The pudding was just ok but the cookie and rugelach were delicious. We left there and headed to Hells Kitchen, I wanted to eat at Limon but it was closed (we later found out it had moved location). We ended up eating at El Centro. I had an excellent Chicken Chilaquile for 15 dollars. Both of my kids had grilled steak burritos...the steak was so tender and delicious....price 17 dollars. Very Budget friendly for New York. Was a great choice for dinner.
Tuesday, We ate at the Kitchenette for breakfast, in the downtown area. Very convenient for walking to 9/11 memorial site. I had the french toast....oh so yummy..but I wish I would have only order one slice as two pieces was too much to eat. I had a mocha which good also. Everyone else had pancakes, eggs and sausage...everything was excellent. On our way back to the hotel we stopped at got sandwiches at DeMarco's, I ordered a mocha....excellent! Dinner we headed over to Motorinos. Pizza was excellent. Loved this little restaurant.
Wednesday we ate at Doughnut planet....wow...the doughnuts were so good..we tried six or seven different kind. All yummy! Then we headed over to Grumpy Cafe...wow...great coffee. We went to economy candy, sweet life, the pickle guys and ll Laboratorio del gelato. For late lunch/early we ate a katz deli. Well worth stopping for. My mom loved the sandwiches.
Thursday, breakfast in our room. Lunch we ate at Juniors...not that great for the money. Dinner at Don Antonio. The fried pizza was excellent.
My mother and daughter went home Friday. I will post the second part of my trip in the next couple of days. Thanks again!
