Ice cream - jersey shore

Husband is on a mission to try all the "best" ice cream spots this summer.
We'll drive within 15-20 min of Long Branch.

Any recommendations?

  1. You could try Hoffmans in Little Silver. My personal favorite is their Coffee Oreo.

Our favorite place! Husband loves the maple walnut. But we go to the spring lake location

+1 for Hoffman's in general but also for the coffee Oreo!

      2. Old school ambience. Nagles Apocathery in Ocean Grove. Peach ice cream please.

Never tried the peach! Will give it a try next time. We usually go to Day's if we're in ocean grove, cuz of the covered porch seating.

Went to Nagle's for my first time this past Saturday. (All other Ocean Grove visits have been to Day's). Frankly, I was underwhelmed. Ice cream tasted very ordinary to me. I had peach, rum raisin, and salted caramel. Just.. eh. Oh, and a root beer float.. that was decent, but really, how hard is it to screw that up?

I will say their soft serve (tasted daughter's) was some of the best I've ever had.

We haven't been to nagles at all this summer.
              Sorry you were disappointed

        2. Not the best but really good, we like the Beach Plum in Bradley Beach. My wife makes gelato all the time so my barometer for best is quite different I guess lol

          1. napoli brothers in belford on 36 makes a black rasberry ice cream. It's not really gourmet or anything, and im pretty sure its probably artificially flavored, but it is pretty unique.

There is Jersey Freeze in Freehold, might be a little further than your 20 min limit, but I know they make their banana with real bananas.

I know its a chain, so it probably doesn't fit within your question, but I had a Jelly Ring Italian Ice from Uncle Louie G's in Keyport. It was amazing.

Thanks. Will check out jersey freeze next time we are in freehold. Don't love driving to freehold at night (highways are reallllly dark!)

I did not care for nagles at all. Just felt like the place is..unsanitary. Love Jersey Freeze's chocolate and black raspberry. Also like Bent Spoon and Halo in Princeton.

            2. When I am in Long Branch, I love the Lighthouse's Strawberry. Something about it. Maybe extra sugar..who knows, I just LOVE it!!!

My favorite ice cream has to be from Hoffman's in Spring Lake! Love that toasted coconut!

              1. Polar Bear Ice Cream - Keansburg, NJ, for added local color it is in a school bus parking lot.

Oh man.. I love Polar Bear. Its like a relic in time, and its run by a retired FDNY firefighter. Just don't know if it fits in with the Hounder's "Best" category.

                2. Crazees in Rumson has delicious Thomas Sweet Ice Cream! IMHO the best in Monmouth County.
