Source for affordable grass-fed beef?

I've been on the lookout for an affordable source for grass-fed beef that doesn't require I buy in 1/4 steer quantities. I live in the north end, but work near Bellevue, however I'm willing to drive wherever necessary to save a few bucks. Where are you getting your grass-fed?

  1. Lately, Safeway has been offering select cuts of all-natural grass fed beef under their "Open Nature" brand. Ground beef as well.

Nice! I'll look into it. My local QFC just started carrying it, but it looks like it's not selling, and even cheap cuts are around $12/lb. I assume it'll go away sooner or later when they realize nobody's buying it.

I noticed that beginning today, Safeway has the Open Nature grass-fed Angus ground beef on sale at $3.99. The sale runs through next Tuesday.

We have a meat market nearby that carries cuts of Painted Hills beef, but it is very expensive, so really best suited to special occasions.

      1. I order mine from Blue Valley Meats. They deliver to a lot of locations in the Seattle area.

        1. I get mine from Crown S Ranch. Their CSA share is only 1/8 and doesn't come all at once. Like Blue Valley they deliver to a number of pick up spots.
