Clear Soup in Central OC

Sorry for the late notice on this. I just found out I will be having lunch with a friend who is going in for surgery tomorrow. Dietary restrictions call for clear liquids; no meat, dairy, or anything that has to be chewed. Any suggestions in Irvine or South Coast vicinity? I thought about pho and just eating around the noodles. The same thing would work with Thai, ramen, etc.

Thanks in advance.

You can do the chicken pho broth at Pho Thanh Lich.

Also there is the pork bone broth at Trieu Chau.

Ramen broths are all pretty heavy and fatty and not necessarily clear. The shio and shoyu at Yamadaya are the only ones I know of that are clear.

In Irvine there is Fukada with the clear broth for their hot udon and soba.

You can also go to Lao Dong Beef Noodles for the beef noodle soup in clear broth. They added a steamed beef broth item to their menu. A big plus for you is that you can have the pork XLB there. Excellent.

Thanks! I had the same thought about ramen right after I posted. Probably the same issue with the beef noodle soup at A & J. I've been meaning to try Fukada since I started working down there.

A&J is way too heavy. The clear broth for beef noodle soup at Lao Dong is nice and clear, yet flavorful.

Ditto to all of Porthos' comments.

I will add the delicious clear pork broth at Potzol den Cano in Santa Ana. It's part of a white pozole, and usually comes with hominy and a meat of your choice. Though flavorful and rich-textured, the broth is not fatty.

It's a white pozole because the broth has no chili cooked with it. You add chili to your liking at the table.

Thanks for the suggestions. Our meeting was postponed, but I will report back if/when we go.
