Formaggio Kitchen BBQ not as good as before?
I've going to Formaggio Kitchen BBQ for years. Lately I found the meat dry and flavorless. The pork rib was the worse of them all. The price was also at the higher end. Did other people notice the same thing? Or I was spoiled after visiting Austin a couple months ago. What is your go-to-place for BBQ these days?
Yeah, got a rack of ribs a couple of weeks ago and they were mediocre: not much flavor in the meat or the rub. Not nearly as good as previous years, while the price has risen to $24 for the rack. The pulled chicken sandwich was better. Also good fried wings (got buffalo sauce on the side), but pricey. I don't mind the line. This isn't fast food, the wait is part of the experience. You have time to study what's available, have your appetite whetted by the smoke and, perhaps strike up a conversation with your line mates. And compared, say, to the line at Speed's back in the day when Speed was manning the truck, the line at Formaggio isn't all that slow. In any case, when it's finally your turn, the chef gives you his full attention.
The few times i gave been, the BBQ at Formaggio has been decent, but definitely not good enough to crowd on a hot sidewalk with the self entitled crowd Formaggio pulls in.
Nothing up here is going to live up to some of the Texas BBQ options.
I like Blackstrap in the Boston area and BT's farther afield in Sturbridge.
Totally agree that the crowd composition coupled with the slowest moving line EVER (25 minutes to serve less than 10 folks in front of us - seemed everything was precooked but they had to individually warm each and every portion before serving...) does not merit a return for the very tasty food - Blue Ribbon is as good overall at a lower price, and also unfortunately equally inconsistent on the ribs themselves.
