Whole Foods Cheese Recall

There's a recall on cheese sold at Whole Foods that has resulted in several sickened and one death, due to listeria. (The cheese has been sold in 30 states.) The cheese is sold under two names: Les Freres and Crave Brothers Les Freres.

  1. Thanks for the update! I buy most of my cheese there, fortunately neither of these two, but it's good people look out and post things like this. I imagine it's a soft cheese as listeria usually prefers softer cheeses with higher moisture content.

    1. A little more info....
Crave Brothers Farmstead Classics is out of Wisconsin. It was actually 3 cheeses that have been recalled. (Les Freres, Petit Frere, and Petit Frere w/ Truffles) Two are described as a wash rind, soft ripened cheese, made from cow's milk.

According to the site.... There's been 5 illnesses reported in 4 states. Resulting in 1 death (Minnesota) and 4 hospitalized illnesses (1 resulting in a miscarriage). As of now, the illnesses occurred between May 20-June 17th.

What I find really disturbing is that if you go to their website, you have to LOOK for the recall info. It's listed under "What's New", on the right, just above their ad for Holiday gift boxes. To the left is a MUCH larger "changing" graphic where you can view their "Hot Trends" or a recent segment on NBC's "Making a Difference".

Maybe it's just me... but, shouldn't their MAIN focus be preventing any further incidents from happening by BOLDLY warning the public, as soon as you enter their site??? One would think this would be the responsible thing to do.
