Tacos El Panson - Carnitas Torta!
Just had a really, really good carnitas torta from Tacos El Panson in City Heights. I don't see this place mentioned much but it's my go-to taco shop right now. The bread was nicely griddled so it was soft and crunchy at the same time. The crunchy, tender, rich and flavorful carnitas was dressed with chopped lettuce, a little avocado, a little tomato, refried beans with some of the beans still whole, all then topped with one of their salsas...yum! Just thought I'd share....
I used to go to El Panson all the time when I lived in that neighborhood. They are consistently solid yet I seldom hear them mentioned. I usually get tacos with adobada, lengua, or tripa there and enjoy their sopes as well.
By now, everyone knows I had what my friends who are in AA call a "slip" and made a trip to the Dark Side of commentary this week. I make every effort to stay positive and not yuk anyone's yum. It's a thoughtful and helpful attitude that I believe stimulates good thoughts, well-being and pleasant interaction among fellow Chowhounds.
With this firmly in mind, I made the pilgramage to the 4400 block of El Cajon Blvd today to seek and experience the carnitas torta.
Unfortunately, the windows in the restaurant face El Cajon Blvd and are opposite the kitchen relative to the dining area, so the view was not good whatsoever. The service, as was the Diet Coke, was prompt and friendly.
