Can anyone tell me if you know of a place within about a half hour of the Toms River area that carries or bakes fresh brioche rolls?

Wegmans carry them. At least the store up in Bridgewater does. I am not sure whether the Manalapan or Ocean Twp location would be closer (or easier to get to) for you, but you might want to call ahead to make sure they carry them. I overheard one worker call the rolls challah rolls, so you may want to ask for the rolls using both monikers. I believe they are made in house, and I know they are yummy!

Thank you PuniceaRana. I regularly frequent the ocean twp. Wegmans & occasionally the manalapan and princeton area one, but the ocean one doesn't usually carry them. However I didn't know until your post that challah is actually made from the same dough...it's just the braiding technique used in challah that differentiates them apparently.
      Thanks again for the feedback!

Glad I could be of some help. Although all Challah is a brioche style bread, not all brioche is Challah. As I understand it, for it to be considered Challah, it must be made parve according to kosher guidelines and many european brioche recipes include non parve kosher ingredients, (usually butter or milk) FWIW you may also find the rolls available in many of the grocery stores/bakeries in the Lakewood area, esp those catering to the orthodox community. Shabbat Challah rolls, are known as a bilkele or bulkele or bilkel or bulkel if you are asking at one of the kosher establishments.

Did you check the Shop Rite? Manchester or Lakewood?

I looked in Bayville today and there was no brioche. Plenty of challah though, fyi.

Thank you Jerseygirl111...i've never seen them at the couple of local grocery stores we use, but we did find them up at whole foods in red bank and they were delicious!
