  1. Yes; they carry it at Fart & Sminal, er Smart & Final.

    1. Have seen it at Bristol Farms and of course Galco's Soda Pop Stop (diet too).
5702 York Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90042

      1. Gelson's has it in the cans.

        1. Vons in my area has it in 2 litre bottles. Look for the most hidden area of the shelf.

          1. My Von's & Ralph's both sell six packs of cans. Look in the mixers section where the liquor is.

              1. the answer to pop/soda questions is always realsoda.com, always.

Nobody picked up the phone, but the recording says the office hours are from 8am - 5pm PST Mon-Fri except holidays. No word as to whether their outlet store/showroom has extended hours (or whether they're open on the 5th, which is about the only time I'd be able to get there).

                  Mr Taster

                  1. re: Mr Taster

They're primarily a distributor, which is why it's usually almost always cheaper than Galco's. No extended hours but they'll be most likely be open on Friday. Their distro warehouse is... massive, but the "showroom" is the size of a front office. Still, Real Soda is a Southbay (LA) gem that stocks a huge number of pizza parlors with "artisanal" soda pop. If you want to do a dark n stormy (tm)/moscow mule taste test, this is the place to get all your ginger beer.

They have vernor's and diet vernor's, in 3 sizes: http://realsoda.com/2010realsodalist.pdf

Moscow mule taste test coming right up. Thanks for the heads up.

                      1. re: ns1

vernors doesnt work very well in a moscow mule; then again, its been a long time, so maybe a reevaluation is called for. then again, im an aging fucker, and the present vernors isnt what it was when i was a youth.
then again, i prefer gin mules now.
                        then again, i digress.

you're right, that's why I wrote : " this is the place to get all your ginger beer."

Vernor's is NOT a ginger "beer", it's barely a ginger "ale"

--- glad to see all the all the dark n stormy/moscow mule drinkers online right this minute.

                          1. re: TonyC

for the life of me, ive never been able to understand the dark und stormy.
believe it or not, vernors used to be quite something. all you had to do was put your face over the glass and youd cough.
                            sigh.

                            yes, i own copper mugs.

                            1. re: linus

So I've been told. OTOH, I still really love jalapenos Krunchers since they maintained the recipe after going bankrupt.

Sometimes, it's really about getting properly f'd up, instead of stylistics. e.g., it's ok to pour 2 tbsp of fiber into 18YO single-malt when no one's looking because you forgot to take it in the morning.

                              1. re: linus

It's absolutely true that Vernor's is not what it was - it used to be that when I inhaled that first sip I would get a minutes-long coughing fit in a good way. But now, I don't like the bitter aftertaste.

And, yes, I also own copper mugs.

                              2. re: TonyC

so you must know how to play euchre.

i've never thought of vernor's as ginger ale. it was always just vernor's.

                          2. re: TonyC

Slight tangent, found an excellent ginger ale called Fresh Ginger Ginger Ale (http://www.freshgingerale.com) that is probably the gingeriest ale I've had, more gingery than most ginger beers or "brews". Almost as spicy as Maine Root's (my fave). Got it at Bob's Market in SM.

                            1. re: PeterCC

Fresh Ginger & Maine's Root are both nice because they're made with cane sugar, but the Aussie (Buderim Aussie Style) shit is way spicier. Also, Fresh Ginger has sendiment which actually doesn't work too well for a "clean" moscow mule.

FWIW, Real Soda has ~30 ginger ale/beer products, which, IIRC, makes them it largest offering in LA.

                              1. re: TonyC

Thx for the tip. Always looking for the most spicy. I think I've seen the Buderim but got it mixed up with the other Aussie brand Bundaberg, which I've had before and found it to be not as spicy as Maine Root.

                                  1. re: JThur01

i still love the blenheim extra hot. although, i have read the cognoscenti believe it's gone downhill since blenheim was bought by somebody or another.

                                    1. re: linus

Yep, Blenheim Red Cap. I've even see Blenheim at BevMo.

                                1. re: TonyC

i'll look for all these. have always found bundaberg straight outta meh-ville.
                                  thanks for the tips.

                        2. And, of course, they had it for on-premise sale at Coney Dogs on Sunset, but SADLY that place is no longer there and a Gaby's Express is there in its stead. That's where my SO would go for her Detroit food fixes.

                          1. Galco's on York in Highland Park is the place for all thing soda, though as posted below Vernor's can be found pretty consistently in grocery stores.

                            1. Albertsons also carries it in the six packs (near the specialty sodas) or 2L bottles.

                                1. Thanks so much for all the answers everyone!!

                                  1. Just saw some at Von's; when did Vernor's start adding artificial flavor?!?
