Question about cantalope

Today I cut a cantalope in half. It looked beautiful, but as I was making cantalope balls the insides started turning white! Is this cantalope safe to eat?
Thanks for your help. I've never had this happen before.

BTW, the cantalope came from a Mennonite fruit and vegetable stand.
