Martine Saunier Retires

Bill Hunt Jul 2, 2013 06:43 PM

I thought that Jason had mentioned this, but could not find it, in my search of this board.

Martine Saunier, long-time wine importer, and avowed supporter, has retired. She represented many winemakers in the US, and was responsible for "A Year in Burgundy." http://www.ayearinburgundy.com/film/

We had the recent opportunity to spend a few lovely days with her at Blackberry Farm, Walland, TN.

Her enthusiasm will be greatly missed.

We did cover this a while back.

Nevertheless a lady with great taste. Again.

      Ah, Robert.

I KNEW that I had seen something, but just could not find it.

      Farewell Martine.

      Thank you,

But my name isn't Robert, Bill. It's Andy.

And I think it appears in the book "A Year in Burgundy" from a day in the rainy autumn of 1984 (what a horrible vintage!) when we just happened to spend the afternoon at Becky Wasserman's grange.

Yes, Andy -- but Robert posted the original story . . . since Bill first thought it was I who made the post, I believe he meant, "Ah, [it was] Robert."

Then again, it's nice to know your first name.

Exactly. I was just deficient in my boolean, as I could have sworn that the news (however sad), had been posted before. I was correct in that, but just did not search correctly.

PS - I hate getting old. I remember bits and pieces of things, but cannot put them together, any longer.

No. My reference was to Robert having posted the closing of Martine's Wines, which you linked to. For whatever reason, I thought that I had seen the notice from Jason (Zin1953), but regardless, my searches did not yield what I thought I recalled - I even responded to Robert's thread. That is what I get for being gone so much, but at least it was to Burgundy, and not to some plonk wine location.

I was thanking you for pointing out that earlier thread.
