I am coming from out of town to visit my parents in Fairfax and would like to know a good place to procure raw oysters to shuck at home. I assume Whole Foods and Wegmans will have some, but I was hoping to find a seafood shop/market that might have a selection (2-3 types) of oysters to choose from. Thanks!

It's July. Therefore, it's unlikely you'll find any local oysters. Better stick with crabs and shrimp.

Wild oysters are spawning, so they wouldn't be good in the summer, but triploid aquaculture oysters don't spawn and are tasty year round.

      Try Blacksalt market.

American Seafood in Arlington might be another option.

There are a couple fresh seafood places in DC, but you are going to have a hard time doing better than that in Fairfax.

American Seafood Corp in Alexandria occasionally has fresh oysters of multiple varieties, but the quality can vary.

Maine Avenue Fish Market has good deals on Bluepoints. The market at Florida Avenue has some of the local Virginia varieties, albeit priced accordingly.
