Driving from Marfa Texas to Santa Fe New Mexico

We are driving from Marfa to Santa Fe this fall. We'll be driving on Interstate 10 and then 25, but would be willing to get off for great food. Any suggestions about where to eat lunch along the way?

  1. There's nothing between Marfa and El Paso. We've had some decent Mexican food in Las Cruces/Mesilla but it's been a long time and I can't recall any names off the top. Don't recall there being much between Las Cruces and Albuquerque.

    1. Old Mesilla, just outside of Las Cruces, is a great place to stop, wander a bit, and eat. Even spend the night, if the timing works out for you.

There are several excellent restaurants there - La Posta, for New Mexican-style Mexican, and the Double Eagle Steakhouse - are my two personal favorites.

I love that plaza at Old Mesilla so much that I always time my road trips through there to arrive early afternoon. I really like having lunch at La Posta, and dinner at the Double Eagle. And spend the afternoon strolling about the plaza, visiting the shops. And spend the night in one of several B&B's there. A worthy destination in its own right.

If you have time, consider taking the back way out of Albuquerque up to Santa Fe, along the Turquoise Trail.

Thanks so much for this information. We'll stop and eat in Old Mesilla for sure. And we are planning to take the Turquoise Trail up to Santa Fe.
