How would you describe "hot salad?" Not sure how they mean...

I always get the one with breaded eggplant, fresh mozzarella, prosciutto and roasted red peppers, never lets me down.

This is a solid choice - my pick among the cold sandwiches.

For hot sandwiches, there is much love for the roast beef w/jus and fresh mozz though i find it a bit underseasoned/boring (this is a bias against roast beef more than this particular sandwich).

Im a huge fan of the steak pizzaolo - braised in a serious tomato sauce its so so good.

the firehouse, with broccoli rab, sharp provolone, and roasted pork loin is another winner, though i had to ask to have my rab warmed last time since it was too cold straight from the fridge case and threw off the sandwiches balance.

the potato or pepper and egg sandwiches are also seriously good if your not feeling one of the meatier options.

god, it looks like i need a defontes sandwich in my life pretty soon.

There are two locations - the original is in Red Hook on Columbia St right next to the Battery Tunnel. The second one is in the city on 3rd and 21st.

rob, for us the roast beef with mozz and some juice is incredibly satisfying - also like the firehouse.

do ask for the seeded (hopefully semolina) bread.

Valentino special - fried eggplant, sweet roasted peppers and provolone. Also delicious when they put a bit of sauce on the bread.
