Going to be in Rochester

Candy Jun 29, 2013 01:57 PM

We are going to be in Rochester next Sat PM. We will be at the Courtyard by Marriott on Corporate Woods. Any dining suggestions?

Price range? Particular type of cuisine? Willingness to drive into the city?

    Help us help you.

It doesn't matter. If it is good we'll go for it.

Good Luck: trendy New American cuisine (meaning largely small plates with a menu that draws from a variety of international cuisines)

Char: in the Strathallan Hotel but way, way, way above "Hotel" food; everything from a sublime burger to steaks with a few non-meat detours

Thank you. Both sound good. I like the idea of small plates. So often what we are served is just too much food and it is wasteful.

Definitely Good Luck also if you are willing to drive I highly recommend Fiamma on Buffalo Road. Fantastic food.

Has Fiamma improved its consistency? Admittedly, I've only visited once but found both our pies to be extremely wet towards the center.

Now I live in Brooklyn and have eaten many quality Neopoletan style pies (Kesté, Paulie Gee's, Roberta's, Motorino, etc) so I understand this happens on occasion but I was less than impressed with our visit.

To the OP, Good Luck is a solid choice if you desire small plates and cocktails however I was less enamoured with Cure Bar (same team behind Good Luck) finding the housemade charcuterie unimpressive.

Have heard conflicting reports about Cure's charcuterie not being made there...

I've never gotten a bad pie at Fiamma, always been nice and crisp on the bottom. I'll watch out for it.

We enjoyed Dinasour BBQ when we visited Rochester. Fun location on the water. Easy parking. GREAT food
