Hell's Kitchen 6/27/13 Spoilers

No need to recap this episode because basically nothing happened. Just like the episode last week. Only thing worthy of comment was they brought back some HK past winners to compete against the final 5. Was nice to see some of the winners from the earlier runs -- back when the show was a lot more fun. They brought back Season 3 winner Rock, season 4 winner Christina, season 6 winner Dave, season 9 winner Paul and season 8 winner Nona. Dave (the guy who won with the broken arm in his season) really cleans up nicely. Rock, Christina and Paul all look and act about the same as they did on their seasons. Nona was a surprise. Both her appearance and her personality (or shall I say how the show portrayed her) took a major change. I would not have recognized her if they hadn't shown the clips from her season. Likewise, I sure didn't recognize the personality. She came across very likable in her season and in contrast just seemed to bring the diva bitch face in this episode.
All that said, at least I remembered all of these contestants. While checking to see if I got the seasons right I realized I did not recall who one last season at all, even after seeing her name. I had to go look up her bio/and pic online.

  1. I didn't remember Paul at all, and if they hadn't shown Nona would not have recognized her either. why the HELL did they make 3 episodes with the final 5??? let's get on with it already.

I remembered Paul only because he and the runner-up of that season, Will, were both pretty likable and both seemed pretty competent. I remembered Will from Chopped. I know we make fun of a lot of these cheftestants but it seems like quite a few have gone on to quite respectable culinary careers. Christina, for example, was on the opening team for Bouchon Bistro for Thomas Keller. Then, of course, there's some cannon fodder like Lovely (can't recall which season) who has already been sent packing from "Next Food Network Star."

    2. I just finished watching it on Hulu.

They kept saying that it was the first time they brought back old champs to compete against the current cheftestants.

But I definitely thought they did that schtick at least once before.

      This episode was a snoozer.

They've brought back former contestants to compete. I think this was the first time they brought back a full team of contestants that actually won their season. Minor difference, I know.
I think they could have used the two hours I've killed watching part 1 and part 2 by bringing in all the current and former sous chefs and having them compete against them in a service. ... oh and actually letting us watch some actual cooking. I think Chef Andi, Heather, Scott, James and I think it was Gloria or Mary Ann would come in and clean the floor with them. Heck probably Andi could clean the floor with them on her own.
Edited to add I checked back at the episode guide to last season. They had the runner-ups from previous season come back to cook against them instead of the winners.

      2. Nona took a drastic turn for the worse it seems since her win.

I think I read that she had a pretty bitter divorce. She had just had a baby before her first appearance so she had a lot more "baby weight"

I have no idea. She seemed so much more pleasant during her season.

She seems bitter herself, I liked her too, hopefully it was just the show's editing but who knows

I agree it was a surprise either way
