Copy the link to share new pop-up

Melanie Wong Jun 27, 2013 09:43 PM

. . . doesn't work for me in Firefox. It doesn't allow me to highlight the url displayed nor does it copy it otherwise the way a browser function key would. I imagine it requires me to allow a new script that I'm blocking.

Not good that it's not working, but if you need to copy things, right clicking to "Copy Link Location" should still work, as well.

Didn't work this morning. No highlighting and no "right clicking to Copy LInk Location" worked for me. I ended up manually entering the link location numbers to get the post to show up properly. PC with Windows7 and the latest version of FF.

Hrmm. That's interesting. Right clicking on the link worked fine for me in Firefox -- I tested it before I made that post.

This was a few hours ago so maybe things are working now.

Our Engineering team is in the Pacific Time zone, so it's unlikely they were releasing any new code in the last few hours.

In the face of the mounting evidence it appears my attempt to "copy" your example must have been lacking in some manner. The fault lies not in the cloud, but in myself...(I always did have a propensity for inspecting my tennis racquet closely for some unseen problem when a ball went whiffing by it for a clear winner for my opponent)

How is it supposed to work? That is, how is it easier or faster than using the browser's own "copy link location" functionality.

When I noticed it on web view, I had hoped that this might be the indication that linking to a specific post was now available on mobile. But checking my phone, no, nothing has changed there.

If you left-click, it's supposed to pop-up a box with the link info already selected, so you can copy and paste from there. If you right click, it should work as normal -- opening the right context menu so you can select the copy option.

For people who know about right-clicking, it's not faster, but you might be surprised how many web users don't know about right-clicking to copy. Having the box pop-up is more demonstrative of what it's for. The old action, which flashed the background color on the post and changed the URL in the address bar (something a lot of people failed to notice) wasn't that clear.

Thank you for finding this bug. We have a fix for it and it is likely we will be pushing this fix on Monday.

I suggest making it clear that one is copying the link to the specific post.

And could you please show me how to share a link to a specific post on mobile as stated here?
