Patio seating in SF where the food is actually good

hyperbowler Jun 27, 2013 12:39 PM

To launch the summer off, SF Weekly has a nice listing of places with "al fresco" seating in SF:

Some nice choices on the list, but Arlequin closes by 7 or 8 pm and Zeitgeist no longer has the tamale lady and I never cared for their burgers (or her tamales). The Ramp is fun, but more a destination for the view than the food.

There are a few places with 2-3 tables (e.g., Lolo) on the sidewalk or completely covered patios (e.g., A16), but what are some other places with good sized patios with sun and notable food?

Zazie and Foreign Cinema come to mind. What else?

Nettie's Crab Shack on Union has a very nice patio and I'm a fan of the food and especially their Bloody Mary.

Hyde Street Seafood for their oyster and beer happy hour, they have a few tables on the sidewalk where you can enjoy the weather and watch the cable cars roll by. Red's for burgers/dogs/fish and chips (on fridays) and beers on the bay. La Mar has a nice patio in back on pier 1.5.

I believe Epic Roast House and Waterbar have outdoor seating.

Ragazza has a nicely landscaped back patio, but there is a clear tent covering the tables, making it a little weird, kind of like being at a wedding. People were drinking wine on an uncovered portion, but I don't know if they were serving food to that area. I've eaten in the back patio at Delfina buts its been a few years, so not sure if they're still doing that.

Streat Food - not a large selection of beer, but well chosen, and a great urban patio

Moshi Moshi on 3rd had a patio, but it's always been covered with a roof, food solid but not great.

Some places don't have a patio but you could push enough tables together to make a party, like Zuni

                        +1 Skool, FC
-1 Epic, Waterbar, Nettie's, Cafe Flore (on pride friday)

Between ice cream and these suggestions, my vitamin-D for the summer is ensured. Thanks!
