Vanilla sponge without mixer

junglekitte Jun 26, 2013 06:15 AM

Hi all. I'm currently traveling and staying with a friend who has the bare minimum of kitchen equipment. I would like to make a yummy cake for them to thank them for the generosity, but they literally have bowls and wooden spoons. Can any of you recommend a simple recipe that won't use a lot of ingredients and doesn't need anything other than bowls/spoons to mix it? :) he really likes a Victorian sponge or any simple vanilla cake recipe that I can doctor up with a glaze or jam or something. Thanks in advance. :)

I've never made a cake with anything other than a bowl and wooden spoon - why would you need a special recipe?

Sorry, don't have a vanilla cake recipe. But here's one for a chocolate cake that's simple and delicious. It's a very old recipe...I haven't made it for years. But, as I recall, it's quite good.

Mix it with a fork. People made lots of cakes before their kitchens were electrified.
