Louro Brunch

Hi all,
I know there is a very long thread on this restaurant already, but I don't think anyone has mentioned that Louro has just started a Sunday brunch (if I missed it being mentioned in the thread, I'm sorry). I think the first brunch service was this past Sunday. Did anyone happen to go? If so, how was it?

I think at least for the summer or for the time being, they are only doing brunch and not dinner on Sundays. I am visiting from Toronto from this Saturday to next Wednesday, and had made an Opentable reservation for Sunday evening. I actually received a call from David Santos today(voicemail, because I missed the call) saying that Opentable made an error and that they had to cancel my dinner reservation because they were only doing brunch. I was very impressed with the personal call. I am going to call back tomorrow to clarify and hopefully make a new reservation.

  1. I haven't been to the brunch, but if I were you I'd go to Louro for dinner. If you decide to go to the special Dexter dinner, ask for me and say hi (my reservation is under my name). But the regular menu is great.

    1. Here's a link to the Dexter menu: I'd take the descriptions with a grain of salt. I have no idea what that English breakfast is going to be!

Thanks!! Unfortunately, I think I have plans that I can't change for Monday evening. I did make a reservation for Tuesday dinner for the regular menu!

Have fun. As luck would have it, I'm going to Louro tonight. If there's anything new on the menu, I'll post about it. Have fun in NYC. The weather looks like it won't be quite as awful as it has been recently.

Do you know how long it usually takes them to respond when you email asking about a reservation for the Nossa Mesa dinners? I just emailed today and I don't expect a response tonight, but I know it is getting to be last minute for Monday's dinner so I'm not sure when I should expect to hear back. Thanks!

We're booked! We're huge Dexter fans and we loved our first trip to Louro so we're really excited for this dinner (I just really hope I'm not put on call at the last minute for Monday night).

                  Aren't you Dr. Jess now?

Maybe we'll have a chance to meet on Monday.

Yeah, I'm in an MD/PhD combined program. I just finished my PhD and now I'm doing my medical school rotations to finish my MD. Unfortunately we get our monthly call schedule on the first of the month and have a chance of being on call that night.

... and to bring this back to food (sort of) - The first time my husband and I went to Louro was to celebrate me defending my PhD!

I didn't know about the MD part -- but I remember you saying you were celebrating your PhD. As far as I'm concerned, the Dexter dinner is a tax deduction -- part of your training in forensic medicine.

Just wanted to do a quick report back. Ended up going to Louro on a Tuesday night, relatively close to closing time. It was not busy at all, but we had great service and really enjoyed the food and cocktails. The chef sent out two complimentary dishes which ended up being two of my favorites, although I would not have likely picked them - the kibby goat salad with falafel and the turkey egg dish. Not sure if it is a regular occurrence for the chef to send out extra dishes or if he was making up for having to cancel our Sunday reservation, but it was appreciated, although we ended up being so stuffed we could not try dessert.

Glad you had a good time, and that was classy of David. If you do go to the brunch, make sure you have the beignets with the bacon maple glaze. Yikes, they are good.
