Special dinner in New Paltz

My dh and I are celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary in the New Paltz area over the 4th of July weekend. Any suggestions on a place for that special, romantic dinner on *the* night, no more than a 2- minute drive from New Paltz? Here's what I've collected from various sites so far:

A Tavola, New Paltz
Global Palate Restaurant, West Park, NY
Rock and Rye Tavern, New Paltz
Gunk House, New Paltz

Any opinions on these places? Other suggestions?

  1. Definitely A Tavola. Second choice-Global Palate. Both kind of romantic with great food and service. Wonderful cocktails at both.

Rock and Rye can be iffy. We went once and had the worst service ever. Veeerrryy laid back-the waiter stopped several times mid-order to answer his cell phone and really goofed up our order. Service was so bad it was laughable. Most of the Yelp and Tripadvisor raves appear to be friends of the place who post every time a bad review appears. Food can be very good, though and nice garden setting. .Gunk Haus is also a favorite, but more casual and not for special romantic dinner.

    1. I second A Tavola. It is one of my favorite restaurants in the Hudson Valley. My review is in this thread:

I've never been to the other three restaurants, but I think A Tavola would be a perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. Happy anniversary!

New Paltz may be up in what many consider the boonies, but definitely make a reservation for A Tavola, especially for a desired time.

      2. Try to stop at Moxie cupcake on Main Street in New Paltz - you can celebrate with the best cupcakes you will ever eat!
