Go to the wholesale location of Ippolito's (Samuels and Son) on 3400 S. Lawrence St. But I can tell you from personal experience that prices can vary by the hour. We went on a Saturday morning and were quoted one price. When we returned later in the afternoon to pick the bushel up, the price came down. Supply and demand in action.

Does Sameuls and Son sell to retail customers? I thought they only sold to retailers.

Do you need to order ahead of time or will they only sell to you as a walk up customer?

I'm going to bump this because blue crabs are my favorite food in the world. We go to Jay's Crabs in Lansdowne (Baltimore Ave) for jumbo's. Usually around $45/dozen or so. I've only had them once this year, but I have a serious hankering.

What does a bushel generally run for?

Ray, I've heard you can buy all kinds of things at Samuels & Son, but I've never been (despite driving around there weekly). Can you buy most of the things off their website there (I'd assume un-prepped, which is fine)? Their website is drool-worthy, and I'm considering having a house-warming party later this year. Will need some oysters!

We have bought bushels there for anything from $50 up to $100, it really depends on what they have available.

I haven't really bought anything else there, but they usually have a lot of different stuff on ice. If you are looking for something specific, you might want to call ahead or stop by a day or two before to check.

you can also get anything Samuels and son has at Ippolitos, you can usually call in the morning and get it in the afternoon (they get 2 deliveries most days)

But what price are they charging if you get it at Ippolito's? When I have purchased bushels at Samuels, the price has been lower than the price at Ippolito's.

I do think they charge a little more - but sometimes it is worth the convenience (not necessarily for crabs, but for other specialty items. )

$35 for an entire bushel? That seems insanely cheap. Are they hermit crabs? :)

            Probably close to it

the #1's and #2's are at "market price" so goodness only knows what they're selling as a bushel

Something seems off about that. I got a bushel of live crabs from Samuel and Sons (extra large) who sells at close to wholesale prices last year and that ran $120.
