Good Greek food in OC?

josephnl Jun 24, 2013 09:25 AM

Is there a good Greek restaurant in Orange County? We had dinner last night at Christakis Greek Cuisine in Tustin and were very disappointed. This had been a rather good Greek restaurant in the past. To say that our dinner there last evening was mediocre, would be very generous. Is there somewhere else?

I was about to mention Cristakis and then ready the body of your post.

Maybe Greek Island Grille in Costa Mesa ?

It really saddened us because we had liked Christakis in the past. Aside from the salad which was fine, the remainder of our meals...mains and sides were pretty awful. If it were just one or two things that were bad, we'd think it was just an off night...but it was pretty much everything that was dreadful. Sad!

My parents and I have been going to Christakis for years. It's definitely not as good as it used to be - very hit or miss when we go now (the few times we go now I should say).

It's a shame. The area could use a good Greek restaurant...and they had a faithful clientele.

      Kentro is not bad.

        +1 on Olive Pit.

I would add Orea Taverna in Placentia. Their menu is mainly small plates. Some of my favorites there are the loukaniko Greek sausage, saganaki, falafel and seared scallops. They have a great wine selection, and service has always been friendly.

The Olive Pit in Brea is very good. Great gyro meat and a good selection of different types of salads. We steer towards the Horitaki which is a hunk of feta with tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, onions, olives and some good oil. Always very solid and reasonably priced for the amount of food. They have a nice octopus appetizer we also enjoy. The fried asparagus appetizer is also good to share.

I've been meaning to get to Kentro in downtown Fullerton which people seem to like. But everytime I drive down there I can't get myself to not eat at Fuoco.

There's a location of the local George's chain in Westminster.
