LA Ramen Wars on KSCI 18-2

Mattapoisett in LA Jun 23, 2013 05:30 PM

We just saw a promo of a show called LA Ramen Wars. For tonight at 9 pm. The promo said the show will have English subtitles. Since the rest of the promo was in Japanese, that's all I know.

As of 6 mins in, though it is labeled 2013 and with a Poll of 500 diners [last year was 300], it looks to be the exact same program.

I watched it when it first came out as well, after the "newest" episode of Detective Conan lol.

I did note they amended it, adding a part about Tsujita Annex which wasn't open when the original aired.

The 2013 version of this program Airs tonight at 9pm with repeats all week. I don't know yet whether it's a new program or a repeat/rehash of last year.

I think they wanted to get a good geographic and style mix of ramens. I think by now everyone knows that Men Oh is perhaps the best ramen in the Little Tokyo Area, but since they already had done Daikokuya which has a similar style in the same area... they went with the fear factor aspect...

Dommy and I watched and it was interesting to say the least but a lot of fun. You get to see the secret ingredient In Diakokuya's ramen, a bunch of funny Japanese correspondents and a guest shot with The Johnathan Gold.

          Here's there list
          10 Koryu
          9 Ramenya
          8 Ikemen
          7 Mottainai
          6 Orochon
          5 Daikokuya
          4 Tsujita
          3 Yamayada Culver
          2 Shin Sen Gumi
          1 Santouka Torrence

It airs a few times tomorrow but after that I'm not sure.

Apparently it was a poll of 300 diners from various areas.

#3 should be spelled Yamadaya. Sorry for the misspelling.

I really like Santouka, but I think it's pretty sad when the best ramen is a run-of-the-mill chain in Japan. I feel like ramen is a dish that just begs for originality and multiple interpretations, which probably explains why nearly every region in Japan has their own take on ramen.

Granted, I still would accept people's favorite hamburger being In-N-Out.
