Good dried beans?

So I usually buy supermarket dried beans in the bulk section. Occasionally even bagged ones. The quality varies from good to bad. But honestly, I don't now where the top bar is - how great can dried beans be?

I've read about online sources for dried beans, such as Rancho Gordo. The claims from folks that source these dried beans seem to suggest that it's like comparing Hershey's to the finest French chocolates.

Where are best dried beans to be found locally? I've seen borlotti beans at the MPLS Farmer's Market. Anyone know about their quality? Thanks!

  1. I get Rancho Gordo beans from the deli at Surdyks and I love them.
