Sea Goose in Westerly

  • 0

Visiting in-laws in Westerly this week-end and they took us to the new Sea Goose restaurant on Rte 1 for lunch. We had been to the Cooked Goose in previous visits and were impressed so our hopes were high for this off-shoot specializing in seafood.

The space is large and airy (though they could have dialed back the AC a notch) with a large bar and plenty of window seating. There is also an outdoor screened porch which did not appear to be open at that hour. It was less than half full at 1:00 on a Saturday but apparently it is still new and the weather indicated that "everyone must be at the beach".

The lunch menu is limited but has something for everyone. The wine and beer lists were very tempting, but not for us this day. We ordered two lobster rolls, one hot and one cold, for $18 each. FIL had the fish & chips ($13) and MIL had crab cake ($15) and beet salad ($10). We also ordered a pound of Maine steamers, market price that day was $16.

Service was a little spotty as our server seemed easily distracted by friends at the bar. She forgot our steamers until we reminded her when the entrees came. Otherwise, everything was spot on. The lobster rolls were large (bigger than Cooked Goose's) and very fresh. FIL's fish & chips got a "very good" and MIL loved her crab cake and salad. We would definitely come back for a meal with wine as some of the recommended pairings sounded delicious and the raw bar also is calling our name. Final verdict, a bit pricey but worth it.
