Fresh Market, Woodbury

We're apparently getting a Fresh Market on Long Island. I'm not familiar with this chain but according to their website, there are locations in Latham and Scarsdale. NY State hounds: Is this something we should be getting excited about, or is another meaningless use of the word "fresh"? Thanks.

I have been consistently happy with the produce, ice cream selection, pork chops and customer service.

From reviews of stores elsewhere, it appears that lack of freshness is a not uncommon complaint.

I live a minute from Woodbury, will probably stop in once to compare, but from all I've read about their other stores, the stuff that's rated highly is mostly stuff I don't eat or drink.

I have been to the one in Westport, CT and thought that it had a fairly limited selection of products. I can’t imagine it being the best shop for a big weekly grocery haul, but the produce, meats and seafood looked nice, and at quick glance, they have a decent cheese selection. We were doing a last minute dash for some baguettes for Easter dinner, so I didn’t get a feel for their pricing, but the bread was good.

Speaking of new stores, I finally made it to the “new” Iavarone Bros. in Lake Success (I know, not so new) and it is really nice, double the size of the old store. The prices are through the roof though, so I tried to keep myself focused on just getting what was on my list…the delicious cheese and parsley sausage ring, sliced turkey breast and blood orange juice from Italy. Oh, and that big fat juicy beefsteak tomato that was calling my name as I neared the checkout.

In general, Iavarone is a force for good.
