Ice Queen at the Marin San Rafael Sunday Farmer's Market

I was in Marin on Sunday and went to the Civic Center Marin Farmer's Market for the first time ever. Apparently it's the 3rd biggest farmer's market in California (what's #1 and #2?)

Anyway, I was impressed. Lots of sampling of peaches, nectarines, strawberries and various prepared foods. I bought some donut peaches from one stand, and some red cherries elsewhere, and then made my way over to the Ice Queen truck, at the far end of the market. Unfortunately, they were out of the more interesting-sounding seasonal flavors, like pluot, tart apricot, and strawberry. But I ended up w/ a shaved ice combining three other flavors: lemon-lime, grapefruit, and pineapple-mango. I ended up liking all three of these, and enjoyed the balance of tart/bitter/sweet. If I had to choose a favorite of those 3 though, it would probably be the pineapple-mango, which wasn't overly sweet and tasted very bright and fresh.

I loved the texture of the shaved ice. I don't suppose this truck ever comes to SF or Oakland?

    1. From the schedule on its website, looks like it sticks to markets in Marin County. But since the schedule is dated 2010, maybe it has added other venues.

      1. We were there this past Sunday as well, but left by 8:30am so probably would have missed the Ice Queen anyway. Where was she located? When you say "far end" I envision the arts and crafts section, or way in the corner by the knife sharpener and rotisserie cart?
