My casual dining around Bar Harbor and Boothbay
Took a short trip to Bar Harbor this week. Here are my thoughts:
Ice cream: Our hands down favorite was Udder Heaven...it's across from Pirate's Cove mini golf. The ice cream was creamy and delicious. We also enjoyed MDI Ice Cream, but more for the unique flavors rather than the quality of the ice cream. The treacle tart flavor was icy. They are also expensive and there is only one bench to sit on, no tables. The final ice cream stop was Ben and Bill's Chocolate Emporium. Yuck. This is not good ice cream. It tastes like it's full of artificial ingredients. And judging by the flourescent colors, it is.
Pizza: We stopped at Rosalies for a quick dinner. The pizza is fine. They make their own sauce and dough. The cheese is all mozz. Nothing amazing, but it was decent enough. I also got a Greek salad. It was on a mix of lettuce, which was nice. It could have benefited from some cucumbers.
Mainely Meat: We went to the Atlantic Brewing Co. location. It was a mixed bag. The pulled pork was very good, the ribs were overcooked, they only offer one bbq sauce...a sweet one. There is also a hot sauce on the table. It was edible 'q, but not in my top 5 (or 10) in New England. The beer was very good though...enjoyed the IPA very much.
Ornes Candy Store: LOVED the railroad candy...it's caramel with powdered sugar. This is a really cute candy store. The fudge is better across the street though at the general store.
Bakers Way: had a Vietnamese dinner. The yellow curry chicken was very good, with big chunks of sweet potato and carrots. The lo mein was standard. They also have a bakery. The apple fritters are gigantic, sugary goodness. The four of us couldn't finish it.
That's about it. We had two young kids so we kept it simple and dined on lots of pbj while hiking. Hoping the casual reviews help someone.
