hole in the wall recommendations for a friend...

intelguy Jun 19, 2013 09:22 AM

Hi to all

I have a favour to ask. A good friend of mine is coming into town and needs some recommendations for places to eat downtown.

“I have a colleague that is going to Vancouver in early July and would like to try seafood, steak, Mediterranean, Italian, sushi restaurants, etc. Do you have suggestions as to where to go? Preferably downtown. Hole in the wall is preferable over trendy.”

Any recommendations?

Here's a recently-opened 'HITW' to use the term figuratively:

    And a few more:

    Hawkers Delight (Main St/King Edward
)Phnom Penh (E. Georgia btwn Main St & Gore St)
Pho Thuan An (Kingsway, east of Fraser St)

A local blog (heavy emphasis on budget places that are downtown):

If by hole-in-the-wall, your friend means casual, budget-friendly (~ $10) and down-to-earth ambiance without the blue-haired crowd, a few pop to mind:

La Taqueria Taco Shop (orig. location on Hastings)

      Nuba (Seymour; Hastings)

      Sushi Star (Nelson)

      Finch's Tea & Coffee (Pender)

      Viet Sub Vietnamese Cuisine (Robson)

      Fritz European Fry House (Davie)

      Meat & Bread (Pender)

      The American CheeseSteak Co. (Davie)

Good addition, prolly one of the best pad thai in all of Greater Vancouver.

Super tiny, only about four tables for eat in, mostly does takeaway

30 pad gra prow is also v. good, comes with rice so no need to order extra

                Thai tea is tasty here

avoid veggies (overcooked and bland and #17 (canned pineapple)
